Accommodation on The West Highland Way
West Highland Way offers an wide range of accommodation but there are “pinch points” where the options become fewer.
Milngavie offers hotel, bed & breakfasts and a farm campsite.
Drymen offers hotels, guest houses, bunkhouse, bed & breakfasts and camping.
NB Wild camping is restricted in this area until you get north of Rowardennan. Anyone camping here risks a fine of £500.
Balmaha offers hotel, guest house and bunkhouse accommodation. There are a few B&B and camping options between Balmaha and Rowardennan.
Rowardennan area has a youth hostel, hotel and some B&B. The wild camping ban ends soon after leaving Rowardennan.
Inversnaid there is a bunkhouse with camping and restaurant available here. Pickup available from the lochside hotel. The lochside hotel caters mainly for pre-booked bus touring groups.
Inverarnan offers camping, wigwams, some B&B and an inn.
Crianlarich is about 15-20 mins off the route. Often used as an over night stop, with hotel, B&B and youth hostel
Tyndrum offers hotel B&B, hostel and campsite.
Bridge of Orchy offers a hotel, hostal & bunk with wild camping.
Inveroran has one hotel and wild camping area.
Kingshouse has one hotel and wild camping area.
Kinlochleven has hotels, cabins, B&B, guest houses, hostal and camping.
Fort William a wide choice of accommodation and camping.
Baggage Transfer
The majority of walkers / cyclists have their overnight bags taken ahead by van and left nightly at their place of accommodation.
Both AMS and Travelite offer excellent baggage drop services.
Transport Services
Scotrail operate rail services between Edinburgh and Glasgow direct to Milngavie. And also return rail transport from Fort William to Glasgow.
The West Highland Line shadows much of the West Highland Way route with stops at Ardlui (near Inverarnan), Crianlarich, Tyndrum and Fort William.
CityLink Buses also run a service between Fort William and Glasgow which have various stopping points on the WHW route.
Private hire taxis available from Carrs Loch Lomond offer airport transfers to and from most locations the West Highland Way.
Traveline is an excellent source of up to date travel information in Scotland.
